When working on renovations, it is always helpful to keep the design in line with the style and time of when the home was first built. Travel and hotels (pre-pandemic of course) always have been a great source of inspiration at Thatch.

One great example of a hotel that looked to the past to inspire their design is the Shinola Hotel in Detroit. The hotel property consists of two restored buildings—the old T.B. Rayl & Co. sporting goods and hardware store built in 1915 and a former Singer sewing-machine store from 1936—with three brand new buildings modeled after downtown Detroit’s historic architecture. The hotel’s interiors especially the bathrooms—are styled with early 20th century design elements including classic subway tile in a modern application and metal shower doors.

This shower door style has served as the jumping off point for a new primary bathroom renovation in a 1927 Tudor. Frameless shower doors are the norm these days, so this metal frame style is hard to come by. Thatch has reached out to local metal fabricators to see if they could replicate this style. Updates to come!
