Double Duty Spaces

When designing a space, it is important to think about how that space will operate and what purpose it will serve. It’s always better to have that space be multi-functional to utilize your home better.

This desk is a perfect example of that. This area is located right at the top of the entry stairs and outside of the kitchen - definitely the hub of the home. There was a built in cabinet there before but it took up too much space and was not high on functionality. We proposed using this simple piece of IKEA countertop to make a desk. Now this surface is the perfect “drop zone” for mail and keys upon entry. It is also a nice place to sit outside the kitchen and write down the grocery list or pay the bills.

When company comes over, this desk quickly transforms into a bar area. Since it is right off the kitchen, it is the perfect place for the bar to be in the flow of entertaining.
